Music exerts a profound and immediate effect on the mind. Thanks, God. So I really want to share a sort of hypnotic technique I like to use for two reasons: (1) It lets me absorb music. (2) It lets me get freaky.
Explore! A fascinating technique to stimulate introspection and heightened awareness.
This method, rooted in focused contemplation, invites you to delve into the depths of your consciousness. Embrace this exercise with an open mind, and let your imagination truly soar.
1: Choosing the Right Music
Select music that resonates with your mood. Dense perception-clouding or soft-simple, your choice will dictate the contents of your trip. Exercise serious caution, for just as dreams can leave lingering emotions and implant in the subconscious bizarre-yet-potent pseudo memories, so too can the wrong choice of music here have lasting implications on your perception of “reality.”
2: Focusing Your Vision
The key to the technique is vision. With eyes open, fixate. Not on anything in particular, but actually on the lack of anything particular. A blank wall, trees, and open space, work very well. Allow your gaze to soften and drift. You know you’re doing something right when you notice amorphous patterns briefly forming and leaving perception. This is the foundation.
3: Amplifying Patterns
Similar to the afterimage left by a bright light, the object is to amplify such patterns in your field of vision. This is where the technique diverges from traditional meditation. Concentrate on intensifying these evolving shapes.
4: Immerse Yourself in Sound
The music will envelop you. As you focus on embracing the visual patterns, which should feel almost blinding or vision obscuring, allow the auditory experience to become the dominant sensation. At this point, you should feel almost as if your eyes are closed, or you are blind, or if you did look at anything specific it wouldn’t work. Immerse yourself fully in the soundscape.
5: A Journey of Clarity
As the patterns intensify, the world around you may shift, leaving you only with absolute perception of self. Embrace this newfound “clarity” and allow your mind to wander heavily.
This technique offers a unique form of interaction with your favorite music, akin to daydreaming. Beyond that, it allows for not only investigation but also influence of the subconscious. Embrace profound clarity, and allow your mind to wander. Remember, this exercise is a journey, not a destination. Embrace the mystery of existence and the vast complexity of the universe, all within the sanctuary of your own mind!
Personally, I really like to listen to Taylor Swift when I do this. I let her just get in there and scramble up my brain. I always come out feeling like a more realized and honestly deep person.
Please, try this out!
