It’s been 10 minutes, and I already miss The Driver Era.

Ross and Rocky Lynch, of Disney channel and R5 fame, were on Tartan ground this Homecoming Weekend, and I’m still reeling. The band delivered a bombastic, packed show that had the entire audience going insane, matched in volume by scream-singing to hit after hit song.

The crowd was moderately excited during the energetic opening act from indie trio Almost Monday, but the moment the duo stepped on stage to “Feel You Now,” the atmosphere in the room changed completely.

Not only did they sing a good majority of their discography, but they brought older brother/former bandmate, Riker Lynch, out to play alongside them, and Ross Lynch’s shirt was merely decoration. (It became more and more unnecessary and less and less ON as the night continued.)

If you read my article-slash-crash-course on all things Driver Era last week, you would have been as pleased as I was to hear all their fan favorites, alongside some underrated tracks with standout performances. Brand new single “Rumors” took an early spot on the setlist, teasing an inevitable run-up to imminent future releases. “Nobody Knows,” “Heart of Mine,” and “Preacher Man” all delivered raucous dance and sing-alongs; the more serious moments, featuring powerful piano and vocals during “San Francisco” and “Take Me Away” were musically gorgeous.

If The Driver Era came onto campus with a solid audience, they certainly left with more devoted listeners. By the night’s end, I’d be surprised if many in the gym hadn’t fallen prey to the charms of the music, the members — or, as I did, both. Not only were the vocals and music great and the sound and light display electric, but the band’s witty, admittedly sultry energy was present the entire night. Ross and Rocky (and Riker) teased and lifted each other up onstage, discussing everything from “Teen Beach Movie” memories to their love for our mascot in between songs.

Before I forget to mention it, they did close with “A Kiss,” a song I’ve manifested hearing live since probably ninth grade, and that was nothing short of insane. I have yet to recover. I’m extremely biased, but I hope to see The Driver Era return to Pittsburgh soon. Album four can’t come fast enough!

And by the way, Ross — the football team did win the Homecoming football game. Roll Tartans.
