As many of you probably know, Carnegie Mellon has a campus in Doha, Qatar affectionately known as “CMU-Q.” But what many of you probably don’t know is that they also have their own student-run lifestyle magazine! The Magazine is called “Lamحa” and highlights students’ voices at the Qatar campus as well as all of the amazing things they have done. I was lucky enough to have stumbled upon a copy of Lamحa recently and was not able to put it down! There is so much happening at CMU-Q, and I wish there was a more consistent level of communication between our campuses. Coincidentally, I actually know one of the editors of the magazine! Mariam Hamad, one of the founding editorial board members of Lamحa, is currently studying in Pittsburgh this semester through the exchange program. I was able to reach out to her and learn more about Lamحa.

From Mariam: “Lamحa/ Lamha is the Arabic word for glimpse. Our magazine is meant to serve as a window into the vibrant and diverse world of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. It is a platform for capturing memories and preserving them on paper, a treasure trove of experiences and perspectives from the students who call CMU-Q home. With a mix of student driven content, from recaps of events to exclusive interviews, Lamحa serves as a voice for the student body, highlighting the unique ideas, aspirations, and art that makes our community so special. Whether on or off campus, Lamحa is a reflection of the vibrant and diverse culture of CMU-Q, and an archive of the experiences that shape us into who we are today and who we will become.”

The newest edition of Lamحa just came out this week and it is absolutely a must-read. It delves into topics on CMU-Q students’ minds such as:

  • An exclusive interview with CMU-Q Alum Sabih Bin Wasi, founder of Stellic
  • An exclusive interview with Ahmad Mohamad, professional basketball player for the Qatar Basketball Federation and CMU-Q Student
  • Student thoughts on the ongoing events in Palestine
  • Pieces on Palestinian Art & Culture
