Aw man college football sucks again.
Okay I’m overreacting. But also, last week was so much fun and this one was just. Boring?
Nebraska lost to another ranked team, which puts them at over 20 straight to teams ranked in the top-25. While Rhule has done good work there, it’s obvious Nebraska is still far from it’s glory days. Texas walloped whatever Southwestern Directional U they paid a few million to play, and Ohio State made sure West Virginia didn’t get any joy this weekend.
There were, however, several very interesting games that were actually worth watching, just, none that I expected. Vanderbilt managed to tie it up with #7 Missouri in regulation and then lost on a field goal (as God intended all games to end), Michigan managed to thrash USC with double digit passing yards in a game so Big 10 that I think we should give the Wolverines two conference wins for it. Utah crushed up OK State in a game people are calling “mostly forgettable”, and the Stormin’ Mormons kicked K-state while they were down to make sure that the state of Kansas was also commiserating with the state of West Virginia.
Besides that it just… wasn’t really all that interesting? Alabama and Georgia are playing next week after bye weeks, off of Georgia’s one-point squeaker versus UK, which is one of the most important games of the year. Whoever wins, they have a straight shot to the SEC championship and a playoff berth, but also, what the hell it’s ESPN, they’re both probably going anyway. Really, this is De Boer’s make it or break it game, and it’ll prove if he’s something special for the job, or if Saban was the only great thing Alabama had going for it.
Louisville seems to be inclined to continue their operations from last year, and have been putting together a pretty good season. 3-0 isn’t too amazing but it’s definitely no slouch for a team that doesn’t recruit at the same level as most of it’s competition. Clemson is back in form after an embarrassing beginning-of-season loss, but watching traditional powerhouses beat up on tiny schools isn’t doing it for me anymore. Give me two, painful, lumbering teams bashing against each other for four quarters, none of this high-flying, passing offense.
Essentially, give me Utah – Michigan
