Members of The Tartan donned costumes for a club costume contest and to channel our inner Halloween spirits!
Whoever came up with the term Halloweekend was a genius. A tried and true college and, more generally, partying tradition that tons of people participate in. However, in the humble opinion of some members of your friendly neighborhood Tartan Editorial Board, people need to be going all out on the day itself. Who cares if you have an exam that day or a grueling work day ahead of you? Commit to the bit.
This year, people have been a bit conflicted on when exactly Halloweekend is since this is more of a loose tradition than a solidified holiday. This year, Halloween lands on a Thursday which is a bit of an awkward time in the week. No one wants to go out on a Thursday night. The logical choice would be the weekend immediately following the day. However, as some of us here at the Tartan can attest, some people have decided to make the weekend preceding the day the designated Halloweekend. As I’m writing this, we’re all here in the Tartan office in costume. It is important to note that we will be committing to the bit this upcoming weekend too. The bit hates to see The Tartan coming.
As has been touched upon in several past EdBoards as well as in any conversation surrounding work culture at Carnegie Mellon, we as a student body need to be enjoying ourselves more and not spending all of our nights at the library studying. Explicitly speaking, we are not endorsing partying or even trick-or-treating. But, get together with your friends! Have a small costume contest amongst your group! Watch scary movies together! Most importantly, DRESS UP FOR HALLOWEEN!
