On Nov. 15 and 16, Thrifty Mellon, a sustainability club focused on providing a second home for used clothing, hosted a garage sale in The Frame gallery. Tables and racks piled high with clothing items were available for sale, and everything was $1. As part of the event, Thrifty Mellon exhibited handmade clothing by artists Caitlin Hunter, Veronica Michaels, and Starr Thomas. They also had a crafting table for visitors to experiment with upcycling. Event Coordinator Matthew Blankley and President Julieta Montealegre spoke to the importance of thrifting on campus. Montealegre shared that a student thanked her for hosting the event because it was the only access to affordable clothing that they were able to have.

Thrifty Mellon collects clothing from the Carnegie Mellon community throughout the academic year and hosts intermittent sales events. This is their second year as an officially recognized organization. Blankley expressed excitement about the popularity of the garage sale event, saying that around 200 students visited on just the first night. Montealegre and Blankley were both grateful for the opportunity to enrich the Carnegie Mellon community by giving these clothes new lives.
