Carnegie Mellon University’s 2025 Room Selection process allows current undergraduate residents — rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors living in campus housing during the spring 2025 semester — to choose their on-campus housing for the upcoming academic year. The application opens on Feb. 12, 2025.
The spring 2025 Open House was held on Thursday, Jan. 30, and Monday Feb. 3. Students who were unable to attend Open House could refer to Carnegie Mellon’s housing website for virtual 3D room tours and floor plans.
In order to participate in Room Selection, students must first verify their eligibility and decide on their housing preference. Students are eligible if they reside in Carnegie Mellon housing during the spring 2025 semester. Students should confirm that they meet all eligibility criteria before beginning the process.
Students who currently live off-campus are not automatically eligible to participate in general room selection. However, they can apply for the Housing Waitlist through the Housing Portal, beginning Feb. 12. While applying for the waitlist gives students a chance to secure campus housing, placement is not guaranteed. Offers are made based on availability only after the Room Selection process has been completed.
Fraternity and sorority members currently living off-campus are eligible for the fraternity and sorority housing application only (not General Room Selection) if they plan to live in their chapter house for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Carnegie Mellon offers a variety of on-campus housing options, ranging from traditional residence halls to apartment-style living.
Students participating in Room Selection may choose from: Fairfax Apartments, Fifth & Clyde House, Fifth Neville Apartments, Forbes Beeler Apartments, The Highlands Apartments, Margaret Morrison Apartments, Morewood Gardens, Neville Apartments, Roselawn Houses, West Wing House, and Woodlawn Apartments.
Spirit House is available as a special living community for students affiliated with the SPIRIT organization. In order to live in Spirit House, applicants must submit a Room Selection application through the Housing Portal by noon on Feb. 20 and coordinate with their roommate group. SPIRIT leadership will provide a final roster to Housing Services on Feb. 21, and Housing Services will then finalize assignments in the system. Interested students should contact James Sparkman or email Room Assignments (rmassign@andrew.cmu.edu) for more details.
Once students determine their preferred housing, they must complete the application process, which includes confirming their roommate group, signing the Housing Contract, and submitting their application by noon on Feb. 21, 2025.
Those applying for the Forbes Beeler Special Selection process should be aware of earlier deadlines — applications for this selection must be completed by Feb. 19 at noon, and selection day takes place on Feb. 20.
After their applications have been submitted, students will receive their selection timeslot on the afternoon or evening of Feb. 21.
The online Room Selection process runs from Feb. 24 to 26, during which students will log in at their assigned time slot to secure their housing for the upcoming year.
With a variety of housing options and an organized selection process, Carnegie Mellon ensures that students can find accommodations that best suit their needs.
Students should visit the Housing Room Selection page for further details on the Room Selection process, their eligibility, and relevant deadlines.
