Why are you running for Undergraduate Student Senate?

Although CMU has gone through a lot of changes in the past few years, there are always improvements that can be made. Being a part of the Undergraduate Student Senate would not only allow me to bring my own thoughts to the table, but also to present the opinions of my classmates. There are many CMU students that feel disconnected from Student Government, and many others aren’t even aware that the Undergraduate Student Senate exists. As an MCS senator, I want to increase CMU’s involvement in Student Government and empower people to speak up for change.

To you, what is the purpose of the Undergraduate Student Senate?

The goal of the Undergraduate Student Senate has always been to amplify the opinions of CMU students while making actionable change. As a secondary purpose, we also serve as a liaison between the student population and University Leadership. As such, Senate should remain informed on the opinions of both staff and students so that we can best serve CMU.

Why do you consider yourself qualified to serve on the Undergraduate Student Senate?

I joined the Undergraduate Student Senate at the beginning of my freshman year. Ever since then, I’ve been attending weekly meetings, helping to run events, and brainstorming committee initiatives. My experience as a Senator so far has taught me a lot about how the Undergraduate Student Senate runs, and I’m hoping to use this experience to make an even greater impact on CMU this coming year.
