
On the final day of the NCAAs held in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Carnegie Mellon Men’s Swimming & Diving team earned three All-American Honors and broke two school records as they placed sixth in the competition. Freshman Matthew Peitler and Senior Christian Lanuza each broke school records that they had previously set in their respective events. Peitler earned fifth place and All-American honors when he broke his own school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 43.63. Lanuza also earned All-American honors and eighth place when he broke his record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:59.62.
Additionally, sophomore Brayden Morford, freshman Matvey Malinovski, Peitler and graduate student, Frank Jones, achieved All-America distinction and earned third place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:57.71. Morford ended the championships with seven All-America honors, including three national titles in the 200-yard Individual Medley (IM), 100-yard backstroke and the 400-yard medley relay.
The Tartans placed sixth overall, which is the highest since 2005 when they last placed sixth. This is also a tie for the fourth highest finish in the program’s history. Throughout the championships, the team earned nine All-American honors (five individual and four relays).
The Women’s Swim & Dive team competed on Mar. 21 and continued to compete through Mar. 22 which is the fourth and final day of the NCAAs.
