More baseball? Yes, you heard it here, folks. After so many weeks of hearing people constantly asking and asking (no one asked), I finally have another riveting baseball take for you all.

My dear friend Brett Czarniak wrote a lovely article this week about why the Pittsburgh Pirates are doomed to fail. I, however, am here to write about how I firmly believe this is the year they go all the way. (Maybe?)

Reason No. 1: It’s about time. Is this a cold statistic about players and batting averages? No. This is just the truth. The last time they won the World Series was in 1979 (geez, that was a while ago), so it’s frankly time they get their moment again. Have you ever heard the saying “what goes around comes around?” Well, I think it’s finally time that victory comes back around for the Pirates. Wait long enough and they’re destined to win, right? Right? Regardless, let’s just give them a shot.

Reason No. 2: They might not have Mike Trout or Shohei Ohtani, but they do have Isiah Kiner-Falefa. He has a decent batting average of .269 (not too bad), which is actually better than Mike Trout’s current .189. If a batting average is above .300, it is considered an “excellent” batting average, so our man Kiner-Falefa isn’t too far from that mark.

The only hope: “Help us, Paul Skenes and Jared Jones, you’re our only hope.” “Star Wars” reference aside, this is true. The main hope that the Pittsburgh Pirates have in making it to the World Series lies with Paul Skenes and Jared Jones, the team’s two star pitchers. Skenes’ ERA (Earned Run Average) is 2.87, which is also not bad. Anything under 3.00 is pretty good, so he’s chilling there. I’m not going to share Jones’ ERA (because it’s above 4.00), but he’s been tapped as a rising star.
MLB.com’s Will Leitch has predicted that the Pirates are building right now and that they have the potential to make it to the 2028 World Series. However, my prediction is that they will make it to the 2025 World Series (take that, Will Leitch). However, they definitely need to work on their offense if they want any chance of fulfilling the dreams of all Pittsburgh baseball fans.
