Why are you running for Undergraduate Student Senate?

I’m running for Director of Finance because I’m deeply committed to ensuring that student organizations at Carnegie Mellon have the resources they need to thrive. My two years of experience on the JFC, including my current role as Vice Chair, have given me a firsthand understanding of the funding process, its strengths, and areas where we can improve. For example, in my own meetings with organizations I have noticed the way the JFC operates can be very unclear. One of my main goals as DoF would be to make sure that the funding process is more transparent, fair, and accessible to all organizations. This would further foster the activities of our vibrant and inclusive campus community.

To you, what is the purpose of the Undergraduate Student Senate?

The purpose of the Undergraduate Student Senate, in my view, is to serve as the central representative body for the student population, and act as the bridge between students and the university administration. It’s about advocating for student needs, fostering a vibrant campus community, and ensuring that student voices are heard in key decisions. Senate should be a platform for creating positive change and supporting initiatives that enhance the student experience on campus.

So for me, the role of all the Senate committees and executive chairs is to responsibly managing the resources entrusted to student government— ensuring that they are allocated in a way that maximizes their impact on the student body. This is where the Director of Finance role becomes crucial. As DoF, I would be responsible for the financial stewardship of a significant portion of those resources. By ensuring the budgeting process is transparent, efficient, and equitable, the DoF assists in ensuring Senate fulfills its broader mission of supporting student organizations and enriching campus life. The role is not simply about managing numbers, but also about empowering student-led initiatives and ensuring that the JFC’s financial decisions align with the best interests of the entire student community.

Why do you consider yourself qualified to serve on the Undergraduate Student Senate?

Aside from serving my first term on the JFC as a subcommittee head, and currently as vice chair, I believe I have sufficient experience to take on the responsibilities of DoF. I’ve co-lead member recruitment, developed new training materials, and spearheaded the creation and revision of supplemental funding guidelines for FY26. More importantly, I’ve had the opportunity to see first-hand how the JFC has changed over time. I understand how it used to work, why we’re making these adjustments, and where we’re hoping to go. I’d like to use this understanding to help student organizations as they navigate these changes.
