Have you ever looked at all of the various Pittsburgh mascots and thought, “Wow… if these guys were all Sanrio characters, which one would they be?” No? Me neither! But I did today. Disclaimer: I have no evidence. Just vibes.
Iceburgh, Pittsburgh Penguins: My Melody
With the sweet demeanor, the little smile, and the little yellow bow, My Melody is perfect for Iceburgh. I also think that Iceburgh would absolutely not get along with the Pirate Parrot, which works out, since Kuromi doesn’t get along with My Melody. It’s all coming together.
Roc the Panther, University of Pittsburgh: Hello Kitty
You had to know this was coming. Just look at them! They’re basically twins. Hello Kitty always says, “You can never have too many friends!” Roc is living this every day, as he is certainly besties with all 35,000 students at Pitt.
The Pirate Parrot, Pittsburgh Pirates: Kuromi
Okay, I actually don’t have any sort of reasoning for this. It truly is just the vibes. The Pirate Parrot just feels so Kuromi. I don’t make the rules.
Black Diamond II, Point Park University: Badtz-Maru
Black Diamond II looks so grumpy, he definitely hasto be Badtz-Maru, I haveno choice. Badtz-Maru also has dreams of greatness for the future, but for now he’s just rolling through life. I think this is perfect for Black Diamond II – he’s not well known, but one day he will be!
Steely McBeam, Pittsburgh Steelers: Pompompurin
These guys match so well. With the color scheme and the little hat, it’s like the Steelers were working off of Pompompurin as a reference when they drew up Steely. Pompompurin also dreams of getting bigger, just like our resident Steeler dreams of building bigger steel things.
Scotty, Carnegie Mellon University: Pekkle
Pekkle is laid back and soft-hearted, just like our beloved Scotty. I can just see it now, Pekkle in a little Tartan scarf, Scotty in a duck beak… how could you possibly disagree?
