Coming back from the half, a layup from junior Nolan Casey made the Tartans the first on the board. Carnegie Mellon, however, put seven of the next eight points on the board and took a 17-15 lead over the Judges. Though Carnegie Mellon briefly lost the lead after this, they took it back following a three-pointer from junior Aidan Murphy. Brandeis would take the lead back, 28-27, with 5:05 left in the first half, and held that lead through the rest of the half, leading the Tartans 40-30 at the half.

Coming back onto the court, the Tartans took the first seven points of the second half, and took a 46-45 lead with 15:24 left in the game. The Judges quickly took the lead back, but the Tartans reclaimed it a minute later, 51-50. The Tartans wouldn’t take the lead back until there was 3:06 left in the game, and a three-pointer from Allen gave the Tartans a 71-69 edge. Women’s Basketball

The Carnegie Mellon women’s basketball team hosted the University of Chicago Maroons on Feb. 4.

The Tartans were the first on the board after a made free throw and layup, but the Maroons outscored Carnegie Mellon 17-12 in the first quarter. A three-pointer from first-year Kayla Delmore and a layup from junior Anisha Chintala tied up the score at the beginning of the second quarter, but the Tartans weren’t able to take advantage of this, and fell behind 25-18 with 7:45 left in the first half. The Tartans were able to make up some lost ground in the second quarter, and ended the half just behind, 34-31.

Back on the court after halftime, Carnegie Mellon tied it up at 34-all after Delmore sunk another three-pointer. There was a brief struggle for the lead, but the Maroons pulled out ahead and held the lead for the rest of the half. The Tartans were outscored 25-12 in the third quarter. The Tartans still tried to find an edge in the fourth quarter, but were unable to generate enough momentum to make a comeback, and ultimately fell 70-57.

Play was much more even in the second quarter, where each team scored 14 points, leaving Carnegie Mellon with a five-point lead heading into the half, 35-30.

The Tartans had a strong start coming out of halftime, and took a nine-point lead over Brandeis. However, the Judges brought that gap to three after a pair of three-pointers. The Tartans responded with an 18-10 run to close out the quarter, putting them up 57-46. The Tartans, however, lost their momentum in the fourth quarter. Starting off the fourth quarter, the Judges went on a 15-4 run, tying the game up at 61-all. Brandeis would pull ahead of the Tartans 71-65 with 29 seconds to go. While Tartan sophomore Ava Arias was able to sink two three-pointers in that time, the Tartans found themselves behind when the clock hit zero for the last time, losing 72-70.

These losses extended the Tartans’ losing streak to eight and have put the Tartans at 10-11 for the season and 2-8 in conference play; this was also Brandeis’ first conference victory this season.
