Following its completion in August of this year, the Highmark Center for Health, Wellness and Athletics is now open to Carnegie Mellon community members. The shiny new facility boasts an impressive 160,000 square feet of space dedicated to exactly what it says on the packaging: Health, wellness, and athletics. Campus services such as University Health Services (UHS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CaPS), and Wellness and Meaning Making Programs have taken up residence in Highmark, making it a central hub for all aspects of wellness. The Highmark Center also features a newly renovated Skibo Gym with indoor turf, running lanes, batting cages, a large weightlifting room, the Athletics Hall of Fame, and a varsity athlete lounge.
One of the most notable features of the Highmark Center is a 16,000 square-foot arena which can accommodate nearly 1,000 people. The brand-new arena will see its first use this week as our Tartans take on the La Roche Redhawks in men’s basketball, and again next week as the women’s basketball team takes on Washington & Jefferson.
The Tartan encourages readers to get out and see these games, not only to admire the new arena, but to support your basketball teams! The men’s team will play on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m., and the women’s team will play on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m.
