Men’s Football

On Nov. 2, the No.17-ranked Tartans hosted the Westminster College Titans at Gesling Stadium. Carnegie Mellon took an early lead and won decisively by a score of 45-20.

Graduate student quarterback Ben Mills threw a shovel pass to graduate student running back Tre Vasiliadis for the first score of the game. A second Mills touchdown pass went to senior tight end Matt Evert to give Carnegie Mellon a 14-0 first quarter lead. A 45-yard bomb from Mills to sophomore wideout Reece Kolke and a 21-yard field goal from junior kicker Justin Caputo put the Tartans up 24-0 with 1:10 remaining in the first half. Junior defensive back Jacob Franze picked off Westminster on their final scoring attempt of the half and ran it back for a fourth Carnegie Mellon touchdown in two quarters.

A two yard rush from junior running back Willem Bouma gave Carnegie Mellon a 38-0 lead midway through the third quarter. After Westminster returned a kickoff for their first points of the game, Bouma scored again on a 26-yard rush. Westminster scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Puzzlingly, Westminster did not shake hands with the Tartans after the end of the game. In the elation of their two garbage time touchdowns, perhaps they simply forgot?

With the win, the Tartans moved to 7-1 and extended their home winning streak to 22, the second longest in Division III. Their next game is on Nov. 9 at home against Allegheny College.
