  1. Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History

Nov. 30, 3 p.m., The Andy Warhol Museum, free with CMU Arts Pass

On the last Saturday of each month, the docents at the Warhol offer a specialized tour of the museum focused on Warhol’s queer history. Warhol was born in Pittsburgh and was an alum of Carnegie Mellon. The tour features self-portraits of Warhol in drag and nude doodles. The art pieces highlighted reveal aspects of his queer relationships and experiences throughout his life. They also inform audiences about the queer historical context he lived and worked in from the 1950s to the 1980s.

  1. Phipps Botanical Garden Winter Show

Nov. 11 – Jan. 5, 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends

Right off campus in the northmost corner of Schenley Park, Phipps Botanical Garden is preparing their annual winter show for the holiday season. The greenhouse was built in 1893 (there is a TEDx talk by Richard Piacentini detailing the beautiful facility’s history) and houses 23 gardens with various flora. This winter, holiday lights will line the trees and illuminate the glass space. All of the extensive lights are energy-efficient LEDs run on renewable energy, some produced on site at Phipps.

  1. “Home Alone” In Concert

Nov. 22, 7 p.m. and Nov 24. 2:30 p.m., Heinz Hall

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will be celebrating John Williams’s “Home Alone” film score in a concert performance this week. Williams’s scores are in frequent music hall repertoire, including his scores of the “Star Wars,” “Harry Potter,” and “Indiana Jones” series. The film itself is a Christmas staple, in which young Kevin McCallister is forgotten at home while his family vacations in Paris and must defend his house against robbers. For this concert, the film will be screened above the stage while the orchestra accompanies it live.
